Your guide to the Ed Sheeran ticket pre-sale which starts this afternoon

After an entire year of being away from the spotlight, Ed Sheeran is starting 2017 off with a bang, and hit songs. On new music Friday January 6th, Ed released 'Shape of You' and 'Caste on the Hill' which finished the weekend as the number 1 and 2 songs on Spotify?s global top 50 list, racking up about 25 million streams between the two of them. But we aren?t the only ones pumped about it. Taylor Swift posted to Instagram ?oh my god its happening! everybody stay calm!? as she posted a screen shot of Shape of You. Fun fact: When Ed was writing the song he actually had another singer in mind other than himself to record the song. It was Rihanna! He thought she would sound great on it, which she totally would. Ed was the #1 listened to artist on Spotify, topping The Weeknd and Drake. While there is no release date yet for the new album that follows Plus and Multiply, we do know that the new album will be called Divide -- what that will signify, we'll have to wait and see. As for Ed's reaction to all the positive feedback of his new records? He posted to insta "truly overwhelmed with the reaction to these new songs." What is your favorite Ed Sheeran song! Let us know in the comments below!

Only Frontier members (Sheeran's Australian tour promoter) can buy tickets in the pre-sale, however it is free to join up to be a member which can be done here.

The pre-sale period will last for 24 hours or until the allocation of pre-sale tickets is exhausted; which is likely to happen very quickly.

For the uninitiated, most major tours now have a pre-sale period ahead of tickets going on sale to the general public.

Sheeran's general on sale starts next Tuesday May 23, again staggered around the country with more details here.

He plays Perth Stadium on March 3, Adelaide Oval on March 7, Etihad Stadium Melbourne on March 10, ANZ Stadium in Sydney on March 16 and Suncorp Stadium Brisbane on March 20 before heading to New Zealand for shows starting on March 24.

Pre-sales are a way of giving diehard fans first access to tickets — a limited amount of tickets from all price categories are included in the pre-sale, which as the name suggests go on sale ahead of the general on sale to the public.

It also lets promoters see how much interest there is in a new tour; although that is not necessary for Sheeran's case.

Sheeran's Australian's tour is spaced out to allow for extra shows to be added in most states; the pre-sale will give promoters an indication of just how quickly the shows are likely to sell out when they go on sale to the general public next Tuesday.

Many tours have several pre-sales — usually corporate partners or people with a particular credit card — however Sheeran's tour has only a Frontier presale option.

He has personally said no to VIP packages and there will be no seats on the floor — anyone who wants seats needs to buy tickets in the seating area of the venues he will performing in.

Frontier state "We hold tickets of equal quality in all price categories for both the pre-sale and the general public on-sale. It is entirely your choice whether you purchase in the pre-sale or wait for the general public on-sale.

"If you are unhappy with the tickets allocated to you in the pre-sale you can choose to wait for the general on-sale."

You will need to use the Frontier Members pre-sale code sent to you when you joined the program to buy tickets in the pre-sale — the promoter has warned due to increased demand today there may be a delay in the code being sent to you.

Each Frontier Member can buy four tickets per-show in the pre-sale.

The general on-sale starts next Tuesday May 23, with on-sale dates staggered across each state to try and avoid a ticketing meltdown.

In the general on sale there will be a maximum of six tickets per show per person.

All shows on Sheeran's Australian tour will be all ages.

To try to avoid tickets being sold on sites such as Viagogo, eBay and Gumtree for inflated prices, tickets purchased this month will not be sent out until January 30 next year.

Promoter Michael Gudinski has kept all Ed Sheeran tickets off the controversial Ticketmaster Resale site, where tickets to sold out shows have appeared for many times above the original price.

To avoid disappointment punters should only buy from Ticketmaster (For Perth and Melbourne shows) or Ticketek (for Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney) not resale sites such as Viagogo.
