Eric Church has a special relationship with Omaha.

"We started at the casino there," Church said, referencing the Whiskey Roadhouse venue inside the Horsehoe Casino.

Now a country star headlining arenas, the "Springsteen" and "Record Year" singer was a regular at the small venue before graduating to play Stir Concert Cove.

"We shot the 'Drink In My Hand' video there. It's documented," Church said. "It's always been a special town."

Church will make his way to Omaha on Saturday after starting his arena tour in Lincoln in January, and he remembers his history in Nebraska.

When George Strait's final arena tour came to town, Church was there to play an acoustic set.

"And it led to us doing a lot more of those all-acoustic shows," Church said wistfully.

Now he's selling out arenas with his current tour, which features a three-hour performance of more than 30 songs.

Church's seemingly limitless drive to entertain his fans started in the early days.

"Other artists were zipping past us (on the radio), and we were gutting it out. I remember at that time saying, 'Screw them. I'm gonna outwork them,' " he said. "It's the same mentality now. We're gonna work our ass off and hope we survive."
