Speculation about Whitney Houston's sexuality is revisited in a new documentary about the legendary singer.
"Whitney: Can I Be Me," which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival Wednesday night, called into question Houston's relationship with her best friend and assistant Robyn Crawford.
"I don't think she was gay, I think she was bisexual," stylist Ellin Lavar said in the movie, according to People.
"Robyn provided a safe place for her … in that Whitney found safety and solace."
Bobby Brown: Whitney Houston was bisexual, had romance with woman
The two, who met in East Orange, N.J., as teenagers, were subject of rumors for years, even during Houston's marriage to Bobby Brown.
"Robyn and Whitney were like twins," security personnel Kevin Ammons said in the movie.
"They were inseparable. They had a bond and Bobby Brown could never remove Robyn. He wanted to be the man in the relationship."
Former bodyguard David Roberts said Brown and Crawford would "battle for her affections," until Crawford finally left after the 1999 "My Love Is Your Love" world tour.

"That was the downfall of Whitney. Robyn was the person who was keeping her together," Lavar said, according to People.
The speculation comes without the approval of Houston's family: Brown, Crawford and mother Cissy refused to participate in the movie.
Her estate even tried to have the documentary shut down, filmmaker Nick Broomfield told the Hollywood Reporter.
Her brothers and Brown's sister, Tina, are part of the film.

Houston was found unconscious in a bathtub on February 11, 2012, and was declared dead at the scene shortly after.
The death was ruled an accident, but a toxicology report showed cocaine, marijuana and prescription medications in her system.
"Whitney: Can I Be Me" will premiere on Showtime in august.
