Thomas Rhett just released the first single from his next album, and it's a big one. The slick pop song "Craving You," featuring Maren Morris, is now available for streaming and digital download.
With Eighties pop-influenced production reminiscent of tracks on Taylor Swift's 1989, it's clear that "Craving You" heralds a new direction for the country crooner. Morris, well known for incorporating pop hallmarks into her own music, adds infectious background harmonies as Rhett considers a love he just can't quit. Listen below.
Rhett premiered the track, written by Dave Barnes and Julian Bunetta, on GQ and discussed how he feels about being labeled as a "bro country artist," his Top 40 obsessions, and how Morris ended up on his new single.
"My producer sent me a version with just me on it, and then he sent me a version with Maren on it, and I think me and my wife and my team were just collectively like 'Wow, she adds such a crazy element to the song,'" he says.
While specific details about a follow-up to 2015's Tangled Up are scant, Rhett did reveal a few hints about the project at a recent party in Nashville, revealing, among other things, that there will be several danceable tunes on the as-yet-untitled album.
Rhett and Morris will perform "Craving You" at this weekend's ACM Awards ceremony, where he's nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year and Song of the Year for "Die a Happy Man." The awards air live April 2nd at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
