Taylor Bennett finally released his long-awaited sophomore mixtape "Restoration of an American Idol" on Friday, February 24. And as promised, the 9-track mixtape features a collaborative track with his elder brother .
Titled "Grown Up Fairy Tales", the track also features handling the melodies on the chorus. Teaming up with Chance, Jeremih sings, "I know when we try to hold it in/ Every time when we try, we try and we try/ We won't let it go, it just goes again/ It just goes again."
Meanwhile, Chance takes over the -produced track with two back-to-back verses. He raps, "I'll take you to fairs, and win you a bear/ And marry and grow up and split up, and split up my share/ And sew up the seams and hold up the door and pull every chair," before passing things over Taylor, who tackles the third verse.
On his lengthy verse, Taylor raps, "Watch how I wish that these 18 years was longer/ Till I wish that I had took honors, and got to med school/ So I cut off your probl ems." He continues, "You used to hold me down and that was my lonesome/ And now I call your phone from voicemail recordings/ A preview of my previous favorite woman."
In an interview with AllHipHop, Taylor revealed that the piano-driven track was made by Chance around the time when "" was released and supposed to be added to Mike's album. "It's a song that Chance was supposed to put on a Mike Will Made It album around the time of 'Acid Rap'. It's one of my favorite songs," he said.
He added that Chance gave him the song after the 21-year-old rapper was hospitalized in New York from having a blood clot. "Restoration of an American Idol" is the follow-up to Taylor's debut mixtape "Broad Shoulders", which was released in 2015. In addition to Chance and Jeremih, the new project features guest appearances from , , Raury and Supa Bwe. Fans can listen to the mixtape via Taylor's SoundCloud page.
