Maren Morris will spend much of the next several months living out of a suitcase. The 26-year-old is currently headlining her own Hero Tour, and will serve as an opening act on Sam Hunt's 15 in a 30 Tour this summer. Although Morris is, she says, "excited to headline and call the shots" and "be the boss" after opening for Keith Urban on his Ripcord World Tour in 2016, she wont be complaining when it comes time for Hunt to take the top billing spot.
"I've been a fan of Sam's since the beginning," Morris tells The Boot. "He just puts on a really bada– show. I love people who blaze their own trail and don't sound like a carbon copy of someone else … I'm excited to be out on the road with him."
After wrapping up her run with Urban in November, Morris intentionally set aside some time at home around the holidays and into the new year, during which she could reflect on her incredible 2016.
"I feel like if you don't take the time to really unplug and reflect and fill the well back up, it doesn't sink in ever. It's just always happening, and it's never that surprising anymore," Morris says. "You have to let it hit you, and [you have to] take some time off and realize, like, 'Holy crap! Look at all the stuff I've done this year!'"
A recent Grammy Awards winner (for Best Country Solo Performance, for her hit single "My Church"), Morris is also nominated for six ACM Awards, including New Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, for Hero, in 2017. After ACMs nominations were revealed, Morris called her nods "so humbling" — and joked that her motto for ACM Awards week would be #VegasAtTheMandarin, a phrase from her song "Rich."
In addition to Morris, Chris Janson and Ryan Follese will serve as opening acts on Hunt's upcoming tour. A list of all of Morris' upcoming shows is available on her website.
