Our guide to dance performances.

EMILY COATES at Danspace Project at St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery (March 16-18, 8 p.m.). Ms. Coates continues her collaboration with the particle physicist Sarah Demers in "Incarnations," a series of études exploring the meeting of dance and science. Seen as an in-progress presentation as part of Danspace's "Platform 2015: Dancers, Buildings and People in the Streets" in March of 2015, "Incarnations" incorporates source material that includes George Balanchine's "Apollo" and the discovery of the Higgs boson. How is our existence justified? Ms. Coates, a former member of New York City Ballet who now directs the dance studies curriculum at Yale University, proposes the idea that dance and physics a re equal partners. The work shifts between lecture and performance and includes a stellar cast that features the collaborators as well as Lacina Coulibaly, Iréne Hultman, Jon Kinzel, Will Orzo and, making a special appearance, Yvonne Rainer.

FLAMENCO FESTIVAL 2017 at New York City Center and Joe's Pub (through March 18). The Flamenco Festival continues through the weekend at City Center with its mixed bill, directed by the dancer and choreographer Manuel Liñan and showcasing the artistry of Juana Amaya, Olga Pericet, Jesús Carmona and Patricia Guerrero. On Sunday, Ms. Pericet presents the New York premiere of "Pisadas," in which she examines life's rituals from a feminist point of view. And at Joe's Pub, the festival continues through March 18 with mainly music performances, but on March 17, the flamenco team of Sonia Olla and Ismael Fernández offers a soulful "Raudal."

GAUTHIER DANCE/DANCE COMPANY THEATERHAUS STUTTGART at the Joyce Theater (March 14-15, 7:30 p.m.; March 16-17, 8 p.m.; March 18, 2 and 8 p.m.). Can audiences ever get enough of Vaslav Nijinsky? In "Nijinski," a full-length production choreographed by Marco Goecke, the tragic life of that famed Russian dancer is placed under the spotlight. Here, Mr. Goecke, the resident choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet, uses his fast-paced choreography — full of its usual twitches — to tell Nijinsky's story, from his ballet beginnings to his descent into mental illness. The focus is on the relationship between art and madness. This young company of 16, under the artistic direction of the dancer, choreographer a nd musician Eric Gauthier, makes its Joyce debut.

HARKNESS DANCE FESTIVAL at the 92nd Street Y (through March 25). This festival continues with Jessica Lang Dance, performing at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 4 and 8 p.m. on Saturday, in a program of contemporary ballets that explore this choreographer's penchant for pairing spare set design with the language of classical ballet. The program features "Solo Bach" (2008), set to Bach's "The Six Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo" with costumes by Bradon McDonald, formerly of the Mark Morris Dance Group and "Project Runway" fame. Other highlights include "Mendelssohn/Incomplete" (2011); "Sweet Silent Thought" (2016), which incorporates Shakespearean sonnets in an original score; and "Untitled" (2016) and "Thousand Yard Stare" (2015), both set to Beethoven.
