Bill O'Reilly has come under fire for mocking a congresswoman's hair, saying it looked like a 'James Brown wig'.
The Fox News host was criticized after he remarked that he couldn't pay attention to anything that Representative Maxine Waters was saying because he was too distracted by her hair, on Tuesday
He was referring to a clip of an impassioned speech that the California politician was making against Trump and the Republican party on Monday night.
After the wave of backlash for commenting on the 78-year-old's appearance, O'Reilly apologized in a statement later on Tuesday and said: 'Unfortunately, I also made a jest about her hair which was dumb. I apologize.'

O'Reilly will be addressing his comments on his show on Tuesday night, reported Entertainment Weekly.
The 67-year-old journalist was watching a portion of Waters' speech on Fox and Friends. As he watched, he appeared to mouth the words 'right on' and give a clenched-fist salute, before making the comments about her hair.
He said: 'I didn't hear a word she said, I was looking at the James Brown wig.'
Co-host of the morning show, Ainsley Earhardt didn't find the remark funny and said: 'You can't go after a woman's looks. I think she's very attractive.'
The Fox News host had compared the 78-year-old California politician's hair to singer James Brown's hair (pictured)
O'Reilly replied: 'I didn't say she wasn't attractive. I love James Brown.
'But it's the same hair James Brown, the Godfather of Soul, had. Whatever it is, I just couldn't get by it.'
Waters is an outspoken politician against Trump and is actively hoping for his impeachment.
When news broke last week that the FBI is investigating Trump's alleged ties to Russia, she tweeted: 'Get ready for impeachment.'
