Cher not returning to acting despite plans for highly anticipated film

Fans of Cher will be disappointed to learn that the star will not be returning to acting despite a highly anticipated film being in the works.

The Oscar winner, who last appeared on the big screen in 2010's Burlesque was set to appear in the Lifetime TV movie about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

However due to a "serious" family issue, that star will not be able to make it to Toronto to begin filming.

In a statement, Cher said that she was "truly" excited to work on the project.

"This has been a project so near and dear to my heart and I was truly looking forward to helping tell this story.

"Unfortunately I will be unable to leave Los Angeles during the scheduled filming as I am dealing with a serious family issue that prevents me from going on location for the April filming.

"I'm so glad that [executive producers] Craig [Zadan] and Neil [Meron] plan to move ahead and I know that this Lifetime movie will be done beautifully," she said.

Cher was going to plan a resident who was impacted by the led poisoned water in Flint, a cause which the singer had been vocal about on social media.

It would have been the second time the singer will have made a TV movie in her career. 21 years ago, she starred in "If These Walls Could Talk", a role that won her a Golden Globe award nomination.

The 70-year-old recently hinted that she may be releasing some new music.

The pop sensation took to Twitter in August to say she'd been in the studio and was looking forward to working on a new "CD" once she had worked on the first leg of Hillary's campaign.

It is still unclear of what kind of music Cher is working on or what the new album will be called.
