March 24 (UPI) -- Future says he's "happy with life now" in the wake of his split from Ciara.
The 33-year-old rapper, born Nayvadius Wilburn, discussed Ciara in the April 1-7 issue of Billboard after reaching a custody agreement with the 31-year-old singer over son Future Zahir in January.
"I feel like everything happened for a reason. I'm happy with life now. I'm happy with life, period, even with the end of a relationship being..." Future said before trailing off, according to the article.
"I'm just not going to settle for anything, you know?" he added. "Even in my life now, I know I can be a better person. I ain't giving up on myself, so if you give up on me, I ain't got nothing else to say for you. Because if you give up on something that's real, it wasn't real to you."
Ciara ended her engagement to Future in August 2014 after giving birth to Future Zahir that May. TMZ reported Jan. 18 that Ciara and Future agreed to share custody of their 2-year-old son after a lengthy battle.
"I can't deal with it," the rapper said of the ordeal in an interview with Rolling Stone in June. "I can't even think about it. I never imagined my life would be like that."
Ciara married NFL star Russell Wilson in July, and is pregnant and expecting a child with the Seattle Seahawks quarterback. Future, meanwhile, released his sixth studio album, Hndrxx, in February.
