Hear Zac Brown Band's Gospel-Tinged New Song 'Real Thing'

Ahead of the release of their new album Welcome Home, Zac Brown Band have shared a sentimental new song, "Real Thing" along with its lyric video.

"Real Thing" opens with simple, gospel-tinged piano part that gives the song a gently spiritual undertone. In the first verse, Brown sings of homemade whiskey reserved for special occasions – the "real thing" compared to its store-bought counterparts. The metaphor carries on throughout the rest of the song, which shifts its focus first to love then to music.

"Real Thing" follows Welcome Home lead single "My Old Man," which came out last month. The song was a marked departure from the band's most recent album, 2015's sprawling and eclectic effort Jekyll + Hyde.

Welcome Home is out May 12th. Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell) produced the album, which aims to refocus on the band's country and rock roots. The pair recently collaborated when Brown contributed a song, "Grandma's Garden," to Cobb's 2016 concept album Southern Family.

Zac Brown Band kicks off their Welcome Home Tour on May 12th in Atlanta, Georgia.
