Hootie & the Blowfish put TVs onstage so they didn’t have to miss South Carolina’s game

The show must go on and so, too, must the game. So what was singer Darius Rucker, extreme South Carolina fan, to do when a Hootie & the Blowfish concert happened to coincide with the Gamecocks' big NCAA tournament game Friday night?

Unlike the Baltimore Ravens, who stopped a preseason game to watch Michael Phelps win a gold medal at the Rio Olympics last summer, Rucker, a.k.a. Hootie, and the guys carried on and so, too, did the basketball team. The band, which formed in Columbia, S.C., in 1986, might not be able to supply a play-by-play of what happened, but monitors along the front of the stage allowed the musicians to watch South Carolina's 20-point victory over Baylor. Given that the show was in Charleston's TD Arena, that kind of multitasking was probably all right.

Rucker was so pumped for the game that he and the band had monitors along the front of the stage tuned to the game.

There's no conflict Sunday, when South Carolina plays Florida for a Final Four berth.

Yes, Hootie made it to New York City for the game.
