Divisive Sydney artist Kirin J Callinan has announced his triumphant return with a hilarious documentary mockumentary starring the likes of Jack Black, Mark Ronson, Mac DeMarco and Client Liaison, as a preface to his upcoming second album.
The mockumentary is titled 'Off The Record', and sees "the music world reflect upon the impact of Kirin's seminal record 'Telling Me This', his meteoric rise to stardom & subsequent fall from grace".
The film sees the aforementioned artists, as well as the likes of The Go-Betweens, Weyes Blood and Ladyhawke, explain why Callinan's music has had such an influence on them over the years. It also maps Callinan's various "failures" and his complicated relationship with the media.
During a Facebook livestream with fans today, Callinan revealed that his next album will be released on 9th June, but a song from the album could hit our ears as early as next week. Callinan also confirmed that his friend and collaborator Connan Mockasin features on the record.
Callinan's debut album Embracism was released in 2013, and he'll perform at Splendour In The Grass in Byron Bay this July.
