Dustin Lynch has been steadily making a name for himself in the country music world. From his first album with the beautiful love song "Cowboys and Angels" which he dedicated to his grandparents, to the ever-popular "Yep, Yep" catchphrase from his sophomore album's hit single "Where It's At," Lynch's fanbase and career has exploded. Following in the footsteps of his most recent No. 1 hit "Seein' Red," Dustin Lynch has released "Small Town Boy," the second single from his upcoming, yet-to-be-titled third album.
Throughout "Small Town Boy," the writers, Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip, and Kyle Fishman, were somehow able to combine as many references to country life as possible, while still sounding relatable and not too cliché. I can see plenty of girls playing this song imagining they had a guy as described in the lyrics, while plenty of guys will play this song for the girl in their life as they drive through town with the windows down as the sun shines. I must admit the "she'll take a full moon over those city lights" in the second verse definitely caught my attention.
This track definitely has a catchy beat and leans more on the pop side of the ever-expanding country spectrum. Dustin Lynch's voice sounds more produced than usual, but he still brings the lyrics to life thanks to his own experiences growing up in a small town. While my opinion on how it sounds live will have to wait until my next concert later this spring, I have high hopes that his constantly improving performances and increased comfort on ever-growing stages will add even more reason for fans to connect to this song.
Dustin Lynch is currently on tour opening for Florida Georgia Line's "Dig Your Roots" Tour which extends into the spring and covers cities across America, as well as a few north of the border in Ontario, Canada. From the buzz of fans on social media so far, crowds appear to be loving the single and sing the lyrics back to the artist as loud as any of his previous hits. Make sure you take some time to check out "Small Town Boy" and blast it out of those car windows when the warm weather hits!
