Terrence Malick's new film about the Austin, Texas music scene, Song to Song, premieres today at SXSW. The movie features a number of musicians, including Lykke Li, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, Tegan and Sara, Alan Palomo, and Diplo, to name a few. Below, watch a clip from the film starring Patti Smith (via Rolling Stone). In the excerpt, Smith gives career and life advice to Rooney Mara, who plays a young indie rocker. In addition to her role in the film, Patti Smith also contributed an unreleased song called "God Running."
Song to Song is about two couples (Rooney Mara/Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman/Michael Fassbender) who "chase success through a rock'n'roll landscape of seduction and betrayal." It hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles on March 17.
